Why virtual therapy?
Many people are hesitant to try virtual therapy, I understand that. However, I have had many clients discover that they enjoyed virtual therapy more than they anticipated they would. My clients and I have also been able to develop excellent therapeutic relationships virtually and have been able to collaboratively meet their goals without ever meeting in person.
Virtual therapy is convenient and flexible. You can have a session from the comfort of your own home (or car, even!), in your most comfortable pair of sweatpants. You won't have to drive anywhere and if you're not feeling well enough to go out, you won't have to cancel your session. I can do daytime or evening sessions to fit your schedule. Also, your pets can join in! I love seeing my clients' animals and I can even introduce you to my dog, Ziggy.
What can I expect from a virtual session with you?
I am as warm and welcoming on video as I am in person. My goal is to make you feel seen and accepted exactly as you are. No topic is off limits with me and I want you to feel comfortable being yourself and sharing what's on your heart without fear of judgement. I am genuinely interested in hearing my clients' stories and learning about what makes them who they are. The first session or two will be a chance for me to gather a lot of information about you so I can understand where you're coming from and what influences your worldview. I will ask you about some goals you may have for therapy and check in here and there to make sure we are still headed in the right direction.
How much does it cost? Do you offer sliding scale/reduced rate sessions?
At this time, I charge $130 for a 50 minute session. I am also willing to accept a limited number of clients at a reduced rate. I want to try to reduce barriers to getting therapy as I am able.
How often will we meet? How many sessions will I need?
We can meet on a frequency that suits your schedule or budget, whether that be weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or as needed. At most, I do weekly sessions, as I want to give you a chance to put the things learned in therapy to practice, however, I do know that some situations may require extra support. We can talk about the need for an extra session as the need comes up. As for how many sessions you may need, we can assess that as we go along. Some people only need a few sessions to help them get through a crisis, while others need more long term therapy to work through deeper issues.
How do I book a session? What happens if I need to cancel a session?
For now, I book all of my sessions manually, so please reach out via email to ashley@aotherapy.ca. I hope to set up an online booking option in the future.
Appointments must be cancelled at least 24 hours prior. If appointments are cancelled within the 24 hour mark, I charge a cancellation fee. I also send reminder emails 48 hours before so you should have enough notice to cancel if something has come up.
How do I pay for a session? Will my insurance cover the cost?
At this time I accept Mastercard, Visa, and E-transfer. An e-transfer must be sent ahead of the appointment. If using a credit card, I will bill right after our session finishes. You will get a receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider. If you'd like to see if I am covered under your benefits before booking a session, my details are:
